On our last night in Taos we met two Arroyo Seco friends for a final, nice dinner before the long trip home on the following day. We chose El Meze, which had gotten a good review in the Wall Street Journal and, we had heard locally, was one of the top restaurants in Taos. It was a pleasant evening in early August. We were escorted to a patio table overlooking a garden behind which rose Taos Mountain, tinged rosy with the sunset. It was a lovely setting and the dinner was equal to it. Since it was in early August and it is now mid-October, I will not recite a litany of the dishes we ate. I will recommend the Truchas Yerba Buena which was as good as any trout I have ever had. Make a reservation if you intend to go.
