If you happen to be following the Turquoise Trail between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM, and you happen to be closer to Santa Fe, and hungry, I would recommend a restaurant recently recommended to me when under these exact circumstances. The restaurant is called Babaluu's. it specializes in "Cocina Cubana", a/k/a Cuban cooking or cuisine. The address is 3810 Highway 14, 10 miles south of Santa Fe.I ordered BABALUU’S Balseros Platter ~ "Slices of slow roasted succulent Cuban style roasted pork with a delicious mojo marinade and Babaluu’s home made spicy black cherry, red chile, mango barbecue sauce served with black beans, jasmine rice, avocado, maduros, yuca, Caribbean cole slaw and the Chef’s homemade pickles". It was delicious and substantial and uncommon enough that I found myself savoring each individual flavor with great gusto and interest. The staff was most solicitous. The tables were decorated as if a party could be starting at any time. Lucy and Ricky Ricardo fans will be gratified that the menu acknowledges their Cuban connection. Considering the long drive ahead of me to Taos, I ordered a cafe Cubano and was not disappointed.
